Automobile Liability - protect yourself overseas

You have planned that trip to Mexico, England, or the Greek Isles for over a year now. its going to be the trip of a lifetime, right? Wrong, you rent an automobile and the first day of vacation you have a accident in a foreign country. What happens now? How am I coverd by my insurance back state side, or did I take the coverage offered by the rental carrier?
What limit of liability or physical damage deductible is on the rental company policy. Are there any conditions or terms I do not know about, or exclusions.
At Premiere Coastal Insurance Group, we can prepare you for this nightmare so it never happens. Our Carriers, Chubb, AIG, & Fireman’s fund offer Worldwide Liability and physical damage coverage. The fact is even with coverage from these carriers, you need to purchase insurance from the rental company when in a foreign country. Most countries will not recognize US domiciled carrier coverage, and as a result you can be in a bind real quick. however, our carriers will provide coverage for defense cost and settlement, liability or physical damage, but if the country still may not be willing to work with the carrier then you need to exercise the option for coverage offered. Most household carriers, State Farm, Liberty Mutual and others will not even cover you in Mexico, however, almost all carriers do afford coverage in Canada. I have heard stories from claims people at Chubb & AIG that their clients have been in jail for weeks due to not having coverage purchased in the country they are visiting, even when they informed authorities that Chubb & AIG extend coverage worldwide. So, i can and do tell every one of my clients they are covered overseas, but i still advise them to take the additional coverage, what has your agent told you! These are the types of details I evaluate and discuss with each and every client, as I am passionate in making sure my client is covered as best possible by the carriers we represent.
